ADOPTED – Bear – Alaskan Malamute

We are so pleased to announce the adoption of Bear – our gentle giant. Bear was very popular and we received many inquiries but ASR is always committed to finding the perfect home no matter how long it takes. We were looking for a home that had Alaskan Malamute experience and one that would continue with his training. Bear came to us with some insecurities and anxieties but he has made so much progress in his foster home. We knew that he would continue to thrive in the right forever home. Congratulations to all!

Bear is a 6 year old gentle giant who would love to spend the day snuggled on the sofa with his humans. He will gladly present his rear end for scratching, roll over for belly rubs, and loves to be brushed! He is a big boy who doesn’t need to try very hard to reach things on the counter or a high shelf. Typical of his breed, Bear is smart and crafty, and strong enough to move obstacles out of his way. Bear has a bit of separation anxiety and will try his best to zip out the door with his humans when they leave the house. His adoptive family will need to be vigilant about keeping him safe at home where he belongs guarding against open doors that might provide him with the few seconds he might need to make a run for it. Bear has never lived with dogs prior to his foster home, so he isn’t quite sure how to communicate with them. His foster siblings are helping him learn how to be part of a pack however over time it’s been made quite clear Bear prefers hanging out with a female dog as opposed to a male. Bear’s doggie BFF is a 35 lb mixed breed female so breeds smaller than he is will be considered after an appropriate meeting. No cats, toy breeds, or other critters, please!

Despite his size Bear is a sensitive guy who will need a patient, reassuring home to help him adjust to any major changes. In return, this loving dog promises a lifetime of companionship!
