Nikka the Siberian Husky is looking for her forever home!

ADOPT – Nikka – Siberian Husky

UPDATE: This sweet-natured senior is searching for a low-key retirement home. Nikka easily makes friends and appreciates the finer things in life. She loves taking Foster Mom for leisurely walks – sometimes more than a mile a day! Nikka understands the importance of activity and has been working hard at losing a few extra pounds she had been carrying around. After her walk, she’s content to take a peaceful nap. Nikka loves playing with toys, especially the ones that squeak….and squeak. True to her breed she can often be heard singing (a.k.a. howling) whether there’s an audience or not. She is currently being fostered with a young Siberian and although Nikka will tolerate him we suspect she’d prefer a more quiet home. She might enjoy a more mature canine companion of similar size. Nikka loves people and can frequently be found at our Meet and Greets where she’s always very popular. If you’re looking for a friendly adult Siberian Nikka might be the one!

UPDATE: Thanks to Nikka’s foster parents she has shed some excess pounds which has also improved her joint discomfort. Recently they discovered a lump in her chest region which has been diagnosed as a thyroid mass. Nikka was evaluated at a specialty hospital where she underwent a scan to better identify the mass. She will be undergoing surgery to remove the mass within the next several days. We never cut corners when it comes to caring for our foster dogs. Nikka’s surgery is costly. Meet Nikka! This beautiful girl is full of love to give. Her prior owner loved her deeply, but due to severe health issues had to give her up to us so that Nikka can find a good home. Nikka is 10 years old, but still has life left to live. She didn’t understand why she was leaving her beloved Mommy, but has adjusted to life in her new foster home. Because of her Mom’s health challenges, Nikka didn’t get much exercise. She’s overweight and now on a diet, and she receives regular walks to help get back into shape. Nikka really enjoys her walks as long as you don’t go too fast and can pull a bit when she gets excited. She is even starting to jog a little! She is a little stiff at times (typical senior wear and tear) so she’s on supplements for her joints. Losing weight will likely improve these issues as well.

Nikka tolerates her 1-year old foster brother, but he’s got a lot of energy and she would probably prefer living with an older dog. She would be fine as an only dog as well. She loves chewing Nylabones. She is ok with people handling her food and bones, and will glaringly give up a stuffed animal to her human friends. However, she does not share nicely with other dogs when it
comes to her stuffed baby so supervision would be necessary if there is another dog in the house. Nikka is trustworthy in the home. She is house-trained and doesn’t get into mischief like a younger husky. Nikka likes laying on the carpet or on cool tiles, and will occasionally nap on the sofa, but doesn’t seem interested in a dog bed. She loves companionship once she feels comfortable with new people, and when her foster brother howls she joins right in. She will also talk to her foster family when she feels like attention is required. She has enjoyed the recent snow. Nikka will make the perfect companion for a lucky adopter that is looking for a quiet, easy going friend.

Nikka has recovered from her surgery and is ready to make 2023 her year! She is still on her weight loss journey but the weight loss she has already accomplished together with a balanced diet and more exercise (she loves her walks!) has made such a huge difference for her. If you’re looking for an older gal to keep you company please contact us. She’d love to meet you!
